Kodak "Alien Slides" Sunk...It's Over. The Fat Alien Sings

I received the news a couple of hours ago as Curt Collins had published in his Blue Blurry Lines blog that the placard associated with the Kodak "alien" on display had been deciphered.

http://www.blueblurrylines.com/2015/05/the-placard-of-roswell-slides-final.html

It's as it was always thought to be:  a mummy.  It's not a dead alien involved in the Roswell crash, nor the alleged Aztec, NM crash, nor a secret display in a secret government/military lab, nor the prop for a disinformation operation. It's a mummy.

From Curt Collins' blog:

MUMMIFIED BODY OF TWO YEAR OLD BOY
At the time of burial the body was clothed in a xxx-xxx cotton
shirt. Burial wrappings consisted of these small cotton blankets.

Loaned by the MR. Xxxxxx, San Francisco, California

The "research" team of Adam Dew, Tom Carey and Don Schmitt supposedly spent a year or so researching what the Kodak images represented.  This group then turned the slides over to one Jamie Maussan, who in turn had "experts" in the fields of anthropology, forensic pathology, etc. and all supposedly came the the conclusion that the images depicted something that was not human...not of this world.

The poster child for "I want to believe", Tony Bragalia, gave the smug impression that the images shown in the Kodak slides would change every fiber of our belief system.  The slides would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that dead alien bodies were indeed recovered at Roswell and skeptics and debunkers would be eating crow after the "Great Reveal of May 5th."

Up to six thousand people paid their hard earned money to attend the "Great Kodak Extravaganza" at Mexico City's National Auditorium.  A further 3000 or so paid to view the event on-line in a pay for view fashion.  These folks were told that they themselves would be witnesses to a changing paradigm...."BeWitness", be part of an event that would change history as we knew it.

It was dog shit!....pure unadulterated dog shit...

What took Dew, Carey and Schmitt well over a year to research and come up with a dead Roswellian ET alien, only took a few individuals 48 hours to come up with the proof that the image in the slides was definitively that of a mummified body of a young child...a human child.  So much for the field of ufology.

But it may be even worse, if such is possible.  What if all of the principles involved in this dog and pony show knew that what was being peddled was false?  The original unveiling of the slides were cast in a dark blue lighting [not the original lighting of the photos themselves] with the purpose to visually distort the images as to be seen as something bizarre and freakish...not of this world.

The placard shown in all of the photos was either heavily blurred or blotted out by white light, yet one photo shot had a fairly good quality of the writing on the placard that was not shown at the Mexico City venue.  An oversight by Dew, Carey, Schmitt and Maussan?  Or was it deliberate with the intent to obfuscate the possibility that they knew all along what was written on the placard?

At what point in time was it determined by the group that what they had in their hands was the image of a mummy.  It was plain for all to see.  A small human mummified body lying on an open glass shelf surrounded by other artifacts.  The obvious setting for a museum.  The open chest cavity showing the results of the ritualistic removal of the visceral organs during the mummification process.  The state of desiccation of the body as a whole.  Perhaps by the time Carey, Schmitt et al made the true discovery it was way to late in the game to change direction and admit that they had made an honest mistake.  It was either incompetence as researchers or an outright attempt to scam the general public with the hopes of a big pay day.

I had proposed this on Rich Reynold's blog:  whenever Bragalia, Carey, Dew and Schmitt are mentioned, there should be an astrik (*) by their names depicting their combined epic failure.  Ufology's version of a "scarlet" letter with an automatic admittance into Ufology's Hall of Shame

  1. It amazes me that there are folks out there who's belief system is so strong as to allow them to suppress evidence that does not comport with their beliefs!

  2. Add Dolan, Hellyer, and anyone else involved in the Mexico City con job to the list. Fairness also requires us to note those, like Stan Friedman, who refused the siren call of fame and fortune this time.

    1. Stan disposes with the truth when its convenient for him to do so. It just turns out that he is a little smarter than they are!

  3. Anthony's apology on Kevin's site is hard to accept! In the first place why would anyone preserve an alien in the manner of those photos!?

  4. Anon, Tony's apology, though appropriate and duly warranted, is also an attempt to "justify" his actions. Pontius Pilate did a better job of washing his hands.

I would suggest that Tony publish an exact accounting of how and why he got into this sordid mess...beginning and end. This would go along way to salvage whatever reputation that's still there.

And forget about making charitable donations to Native Americans per Tony's request. I'm told that my great-great grandmother was full Choctaw (haven't verified this) so based on this, some of you should be sending me a check:)

    1. An apology not in good faith is worse than no apology at all! Like you say a full and honest accounting is required. I have found that most ufologists who are pro ET or pro Interdimensial or whatever dispense with truth when it is convenient for them to do so.

    3. Frank Warren is a stand up guy. He runs the ufochronicles.com site. Frank and I don't agree on everything, but over the past few years we've established a good repore. BTW, Frank was one of those trying to convince Bragalia to distance himself from the slides fiasco.

  5. Paul,

I'd have to say, and this his somewhat difficult, that Robert Hastings should be given the same props as SF.

And let me say this personally Paul, thanks for your efforts in all of this.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

    1. Yes, I'm a frequent critic of Hastings as well, but he got this one right. Which makes Dolan in particular look all the worse, because he was the only "big name" who was either too stupid or too greedy to not stay away.

  6. Floren,

Hoax, Scam, piss poor research...it all adds up to the same. One can argue motive and intent, but in the end equaled disaster for all those involved in this mess.

BTW, there are some honest brokers in "ufology" and they are the ones that are collateral damage. I may not agree with them, but they are good folks trying to sort things out in there on way.

  8. Of course "the principles involved in this dog and pony show knew that what was being peddled was false". That is the very definition of UFOlogy. These people have scratched out of the ether the perfect audience upon which to market their wares. This is why Tony Bragalia nearly lost his freaking mind over the mere suggestion that someone else had copies of the photographs and intended to make them public on May 4th. Every one of these frauds had to have been aware that proof of mediocrity would be announced within a matter of hours following their May 5th "Take the money and run" scenario. They wanted to milk that audience, these witnesses to their shame, in Mexico, and a May 4th pre-release had all the potential in the world to decimate that profit margin. That's why lawsuits were threatened near and wide even when there would be no point in a lawsuit that would almost immediately be tossed out of court as frivolous. These folks aren't stupid; they're just dishonest. The same applies to almost everybody introducing new evidence of one sort or another to prove UFO claims. They have to know they are lying, because delusion can't account for the dozens of little lies presented off the cuff in order to protect the more important big lies! That's why they attack those proving the veracity of their fraudulent claims while ignoring the cases they make. Doing so cuts down on thos "little lies".

It's all nonsense. They have no real intent to do anything except make money from an audience without the desire or need to check out the details to their ridiculous claims. It's a perfect moneymaker. All they have to do is toss in a few aliens and a couple of "I promise you, this is the truth" assessments, and the money falls right into their laps.

To reiterate: they're not stupid, just dishonest.

    1. James,

Great to hear from you, my friend. Your comment pretty much sums up this affair. If money wasn't involved, and with Massuans participation, it definitely was, then we could have summed this up to piss poor research and wishful thinking. I suspect that over the next few weeks more calls for heads to roll with be heard...not from us, but from the inner sanctums of "ufology."

  9. Dolan should reap as much scorn as the rest. First, he hyped the slides. Then, he was the closing speaker at that circus in Mexico City. Then, as it all came quickly crashing & burning all around him, he continued to unabashedly support this hoax. Now, he is in full spin mode, trying to downplay his role in this hoax.

    1. Tom,

Interesting about Richard Dolan. Since it appears that he was a late comer to this affair, he's sustained less collateral damage...based on the comments of his ardent supporters...see his Facebook page. As I stated in my reply to James above, it will be up to whoever is considered the influential powers to be in "ufology" to exact a penalty.
